It's Fall again in Minnesota. We've been holed up at the Devil's Workshop & Albatross in Minneapolis spending the majority of our Summer working on the follow up to Dead Lover. We're only half the way there, but we've been playing live such new songs as Ban the Bums, Burning A Hole, and My Dark Places. Come join us Wednesday Oct 20th at the Triple Rock, and you'll certainly hear the new tasties. Fox Jon sitting in on the Trap Kit, as Grinder is in Chicago playing our new tunes for the suits.

Here are a few pics from Fargo, and New York shows from earlier this year. We slacked off, so it's a rare chance to catch see us slummin' in our civies...

Solara Halloween bash Saturday Oct 30th...Make your costume sexy or don't even bother, we know you won't disapoint!

7.14.04
Please come to Bar Lurcat friday to hear us rock the new tunes. East Coast tour in August. New recordings coming on strong.

4.19.04
The band is at it again, check out the new dates listed.

3.19.04
Please extend a warm welcome to the very talented Collette Faux. You may have witnessed Collette gracing the stage as a lead member of Cirque Rouge de Gus
in the Warehouse District or belting it out on the First Avenue Mainstage. After
some enticing, Collette agreed to add Rock n' Roll to her ever growing repetoire.
We couldn't be more excited, please join us Tuesday May 25th for the
Voltage: Fashion Amplified show at First Avenue, where the Faux Jean band will play
full band style for the first time in months.

We'd like to invite everyone again to join us at The Uptown Bar tomorrow night for KINDERGELD. It promises to be a night to remember. Here's a few media clips to fill you in. City Pages, Star Tribune.

Finally, props to Esquire Magazine for mentioning Faux Jean as a torch carrier for Minnesota Rock n' Roll in this month's edition.

3.8.04
Minneapolis. bus drivers are on strike. snow is coming down in fluffy buckets. we lean stiffly into the wind and think of god's country which manifests itself here in june. till then, we at faux jean must content ourselves with being considered the best live band in Minneapolis. This, according to the critics polled by the Star Tribune. "Dead Lover," our full length that dropped in may on Susstones was in the top ten of the same poll. further buttressing our frail egos, "Drunk & Stoned" was chosen as the #2 single of 2003 on the local scene, beaten out by our indie hip-hop hero, Atmosphere. I must thank Slug for planting these words in my head: "I cannot deny, I've had a lot of lovers/ In my reality it's unavoidable."

If skepticism lurks when i tell you that Faux Jean is the best live band in Minneapolis, that is perhaps due to the fact that you have seen Faux Jean appearing in a troubador format sometime in the past months. This largely involuntary style has come about as the result of the departure of Faux Wayne and Jean Angel. However, a full rock band version of Faux Jean will materialize in May on the venerable Mainroom stage of First Avenue. Tuesday the 25th of May, to be exact, as part of the Voltage Fashion Show.

Meantime, I'd like to give props to all the performers and venues that let me rock with them or in them since Troubador has become the cross to bear: Richard Buckner, Elefant, Whisper in the Noise, If Thousands, Kid Dakota, Ashtray Hearts, Luke's Angels, Temper Temper, Sweet Faces, Ouiji Radio, Baby Grant Johnson, Ben Hayter, Supperhopper, Melismatics, Mood Swings, Kraig Jarrett Johnson and the Program, Mammy Nuns, Big Ditch Road, Turf Club, Big V's, First Ave, Uptown, Mayslacks, Red Carpet, Ascot Room.

Finally, Saturday March 20, come to the Uptown Bar for the KINDERGELD benefit, which i am hosting to raise money for my old room mate, Jon Kinder, who came up with the name Faux Jean back in '99 and has since been diagnosed with cancer. The line up is star studded if not stud studded. Meanwhile, ox&c.

Wow, it's been a long time since we've updated this mutha'...hmmmm, where do we start...I like this one personally...click here to check out the review of Nature in Russia. It appears the Russian's have yet to get too web savvy, but are tuned in enough to realize the fake denim can always help turn the grey skies blue.

On the Paris front the kids at MTV Real World got a dose of G-a-go-go. Our friends in T.V. gave us the ditty that this episode was watched by 1.4 million folks. Since we're rolling in royalty money on this MTV stuff, maybe we'll get a chance to visit Paris ourselves next year and see what the Parisians think themselves...

In August. we exposed ourselves as best we could shooting a video for Drunk & Stoned. Hopefully the video will see the light before too long. Can't wait for everyone to see it...

We rolled across the prairie in September and drove along the mountains playing a short tour of Lincoln Ne, Fort Collins, Co, Denver, Co, and Lawrence Ks. Part of the reason we've been so quiet is Mr. Fox Jon took a spill off the stage trying to catch an errant drum stick, and sprained his ankle...after a month of rest he appears to be ready for action again as we scramble out of town before Minneapolis becomes a tundra again.

Memphis, Austin, New Orleans, Athens, and Naples Fl, were hittin' the south in November and locals be sure to catch Faux Jean's last local show this year opening up for the Hang Ups at First Avenue celebrating their new upcoming CD. The Hang Ups have another bonefide record on their hands and as always should put on a wonderful show...we couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

See You Soon...

Faux Lovers good news from our friends in the press: Dead Lover has been nicely reviewed in the ultra-hip national magazine Blender (Beyonce's on the cover). 4 out of 5 stars dawgs. now go out and buy the mag. (did you know that fey means obsessed with death?)

Minnepolis Star-Tribune on Sunday highlighted Dead Lover as one of the best new CD's put out locally thus far in 2003. Company included (but was not limited to) Jayhawks and Brother Ali. Though many of you will not be able to travel to the Red River Valley with us on Friday, this profile on the band from the High Plains Reader might make for interesting reading. and we really do plan to get a new band photo with Fox Jon in it real soon. click the url to read. http://www.hpr1.com/music.htm

Lastly, our next show in town will be at First Ave as part of the Rock for Choice benefit that will take place August 10 (a sunday, organize). As this is a benefit, there prolly wont be hundreds of comps floating around, and thusly, i encourage you to click the URL below and order tickets now online. it's cheaper to get them ahead of time, eh? http://www.first-avenue.com/Calendar.htm/beyond.htm

ox&c Faux Jean

p.s. Bastille Day in it's new location was as good as the good old days by the new French and we thank Dawn and Kim and Brian and Gretchen and all the Barbette kids who made the night so special. and those of you who comprised the mosh pit, of course.

6.20.03
Returned from the East Coast alive and well, the shows went very well and we'd like to thank all the folks who came out and supported us. In particular we'd like to thank Mel & Adeana, Liz, Matt, Julie, Claire & Brad, Mary Ellen, David & Lina, & Kelly who made our stays in Chicago, Manhattan & Brooklyn a most excellent stay. We'd also like to thank John Fluevog Shoes, for outfitting the band in true faux fashion. We hope to return soon.

On other fronts it appears one of the Blender Magazine editors has us as one of his top picks. Thanks, Rob.

Get your pride on this Friday with Astronaut Wife, Faux Jean and Cyndi Lauper. Otherwise get your rock on Saturday at the Triple Rock with Faux Jean, The Dishes (Chicago), Gore Gore Girls (Detroit) & Oujia Radio.

"got my makers and my weed, that's all i need oh high-high." http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/mp3/

And what's the point of putting out a record if you're not willing to tour behind it, as they say. so the Faux Jean is going out the east coast way this week and we encourage you to either tell your friends in the cities we're hitting to attend the Faux show or say screw it and head out to New York yourselves! it's going to be fun, methinks. dates below. 6/5- Double Door, Chicago (click below to see our Chicago Reader blurb with a humorous photo of the band to boot.) http://www.chicagoreader.com/music/spotcheck.html 6/6- Melody Inn, Indianapolis ) 6/8- House party in Buffalo 6/9- Middle East, Boston (all ages!) 6/10- Mercury Lounge, NY 6/11- Southpaw, Brooklyn, NY 6/12- Loop Lounge, Passaic, NJ 6/13- House Party, NY, NY 6/14- Galaxy Hut, Arlington, VA

May Day Happy? May day—May day. You know the drill. It’s all good till you see a big green cloud dropping down over you on the interstate prairie of Missouri with funnel systems threatening. Jean D’ax accidentally erased all the digital photos of the rainbow that shortly afterwards led us to Warrensburg, Mo, where we played our most inspired show-me show in weeks—nay, months. Lacking only, was the pot of gold. The night before in Lincoln at Duffy’s was especially rewarding, if only for the Philly Steak Sandwich (dare I say wrap) on the house. But especially for the people who were there and got it. KC and Cedar Falls with House of Large Sizes was one great stupor of fooz and booze. Grinder on sticks filling, pretty much holding the title till the owner of the Reverb Ballroom got on yellow and showed Grinder that his team had a fairly hefty handicap. It was all good, though. Great to do two nights with HOLS on their home Turf where people don’t know what to make of the fake denim revolution, except that they had been rocked.

Please join us in presenting our new record to the listening public of Minneapolis on Friday May 9 at First Ave (21+/doors 5 pm/$8 door/$6 advance) as part of the Susstones Spring Soiree. See below: eleven brand new recordings by Faux Jean compiled on a single compact disc and titled "Dead Lover" released by the Susstones label of Minneapolis recorded at Flowers Studio produced by Ed Ackerson Distributed by The Telegraph Company & IDN.

At First Ave Friday May 9 to celebrate release of Dead Lover and cap off the Susstones Spring Soiree with esteemed labelmates Astronaut Wife, Polara, and Basement Apartment. Look to the booth and you will see the Guv'nor. Blatz the Clown and the aerialists? radix malorum est cupiditas.

4.18.03
"I'll Waste Away" the first track on Dead Lover was Kebut'ed on KUOM 770 Radio K today. Please let them know how much you like new Faux Jean here. Also KFAI 90.3 kicked this friday night off right by dropping "Drunk & Stoned" on the LSD listeners. Dead Lover will officailly be available to everybody May 22nd but it's starting to hit radio now so tune in and let us know what you think.

We'd like to introduce our new drummer at this time "Fox Jon". Fox first played with us back in November of last year. He went on tour with us in a pinch when our original replacement to Grinder disapeared. Since then Fox has circled the country with us reminding us all how to pose for the digital camera and smile for the folks. Here's a few shots from a southern Minnesota show we played, and for certain there will be more of Fox's handywork on this site. Please welcome Fox next time you see him, I'm sure you'll get in a picture if you do...

We also added some pictures from the studio recording Dead Lover here.

And look on the pictures page for a few photos too...

If you are in the Twin Cities please help us celebrate the release of Dead Lover Friday May 9th at the First Avenue Mainroom for the Susstones Spring Soiree. Once again the Susstones family of Polara, Astronaut Wife, and Basement Apartment will entertain one and all. We have some particular surprises up our suited sleeves so this is a show not to be missed. We look forward to playing the greatest stage in the state, and showing the fans just what Faux Jean can do given the arena. Again, you don't want to miss this one...

...if you're not from the Twin Cities please check our shows page and support us on the road. We have the van geared up with DVD's and the cooler's full so we'll be hitting the midwest the next two weekends to get ready for the CD release. The new songs will be spinning on radio so listen up...

...we'll see you soon...

We are putting finishing details on an East Coast Tour in June, a couple of the dates are up but keep checking back to see where we end up. We've been busy, busy, busy...hopefully we'll have time to add more stuff soon...

3.9.03
Guys and Dolls, we'd like to invite you all to a special Faux Jean/Bootleg Minneapolis event Sunday March 16th at the Bryant Lake Bowl. This cabaret performance will be a triumvirate of an evening that is not to be missed. Those who have not already heard our very own Gene Wire has been hand picked by Bootleg Minneapolis for "Win-A-Date with Gene Wire", a promotional event they have been putting together to help launch their television show and it's debut on TPT 2 Sundays at Midnight. Ladies 21+ come throw your hat in the ringer for a chance to meet "up close and personally" the man the Faux Jean band has always known as the "playboy of the midwestern world!" Don't miss this opportunity to hook up with Minneapolis' most eligible bachelor...Aside from Wire, Bootleg Minneapolis will be screening on the large screen Jeff Henneman's very own Faux Jean: The Road to Eau Claire. Some may have seen this on the small screen on Minneapolis/St. Paul Cable but don't miss it's screening in the intimate setting of BLB with a glass a wine and your favorite friend. To finish off the night Faux Jean will be returning to the BLB stage after more than 2 years to do what we do best...(enter echo voice) ROCK! Come join us as we continue to gear up for the upcoming release of "Dead Lover" our new CD that will be hitting the streets May 6th.

The south and west tour went great...pictures and tour diary up soon, thanks for everyone making it a wonderful trip. Faux Jean will be on tour through the Midwest in April as we prepare for the "Dead Lover" release party Friday May 9th at First Avenue. Mark it on the calendar now, pre-sale tickets available soon.

Check out this nice "Nature" blurb...you'll have to scroll down a bit...thanks for the kind words Lio...out!

Review of Nature in In Music We Trust. Ike Reilly/Faux Jean First Avenue show is now up at DCN.

1.8.03
The Faux Jean band has been in the studio for the past few weeks working hard to please you with what we hope will be an even better record than Nature. Mixing should be completed this week and a April/May release has been tentatively set by Susstones. Standout tracks include “I’ll Waste Away” (which the band has been playing live for some time), and a brand new gem called “Drunk & Stoned.” Tipper Gore ain’t gonna like the latter, but we are not writing to please her. We hope you will make them your summer anthems for 03. And we might as well initiate the Grammy campaign for Jean Angel as best female vocalist for next year.

Special thanks to all who came to First Avenue to see Faux Jean’s set at the Susstones Holiday Party in December. Basement Apartment, Polara, and Astronaut Wife also put on hubris inducing rock programs that made us happy to be part of the Susstones family. A special recording module was brought in to capture the night on tape, and talk of a live release seems to reverberate about Flowers Studios as we sit and mix these last trifles. If we really get our shit together, there could be full blown DVD of the night featuring all the bands with interviews and the like.

New Year’s Eve at Bar Lurcat was one to remember, though champagne seems to erase those memories before they are even sealed, sometimes. Thankfully, Jean Angel’s buddy Nate came down with a digital camera and got some shots of the band and even spilled over to Sonia’s party where the drinking continued and red-eye reduction became less effective on the opiated pupils of the faux masses. Bottom line, bring a camera on New Years and you get to kiss a lot of people while also inspiring other people to kiss for you. If only people kissed like that every night. Check out them there pics here. Ox&c.

Our next live show in Minneapolis will be Saturday January 18, at Bar Lurcat. This is a free show for our over 21 fans. Grinder, ever the faux soldier, will be on skins for what could perhaps potentially be his last show. This all smacks of teen sex comedy, so we encourage you to come see what it’s all about. The number for Lurcat is 612-486-5900, should you need directions.

Review of "Nature" in the ezine Lost Cause.

Faux Jean and their patron saint Mark Twain toured the midwest this past week. All was good until Mr. Twain decided to confuse us and send us 2 hours out of our way into the Illinois cornfields. You never realize how remote a rock band can feel until you get out of the van lost in Northern Illinois on the deer hunting opener. But I digress...

...the van took us to St. Louis, Indianapolis, Chicago and Kirksville Missouri this week. If your a band playing St. Louis, we recommend trying Frederick's Music Lounge. The owner Mr. Fred Fiction took us under his care that night and provided us with enough stories and Old Style to keep any road dog happy. Indianapolis got a little hazy after listening to space rock band "Gravity Hill". They really took Cher seriously when she sang "The beat goes on". The beat did go on and on for 13 minutes...whew....The weather took a turn for the worse in Chicago and made one Gene Wire comment "It's like when a maggot says ish!" True, true. But we'd like to once again thank everyone in Kirksville for making us welcome. From the radio station Dj's to the bar managers to Alan and Royce and their wives, thanks for making it great evening. Thanks to KTRM 88.7 for sponsering the evening, and if you readers ever find yourself in that neck of the woods tune 'em in. By the way if you are reading this and you are from Columbia, Missouri, please email. Thanks.

Everyone in the Twin Cities come down to the First Avenue Wednesday to see us with Ike Reily, House of Large Sizes and the Melismatics...if your from some other place you can watch it live on Digital Club Network...check it out...Happy Holidays....

Review of "Nature" in the ezine Splendid .

10.31.02
Happy Halloween!!! Gals, if you don't already read Jane Magazine, here's a faux introduction straight from the cubicle of Jeff. Jeff was diggin' "Her Movie" from Nature and decided to add it to his Mp3 picks. He'd like to see a Faux Jean show in New York...I think we'd all second that thought...soon...soon...

Oh....Turf Club tomorrow night...Lula's Masquerade Ball...let's see who's the fairest of them all!!!

10.24.02
Now returned from our weekends in Detroit, Ypsilanti, Madison & Milwaukee Faux Jean looks forward to playing
at the Uptown Bar this Saturday night with quite the lineup. Opening will be a solo project by one of the members of Neutral Milk Hotel called A Hawk and A Hacksaw, St. Thomas appears to be a cowboy via Norway and looks to be an interesting show, a set by Songs of Zarathrustra should wake everyone up just in time for us to take you home. Should be a big night at the Uptown I recommend you get there early.

We have some snapshots from our trip to Detroit. Ol' Faux took advantage of a day off and went to "Hitsville USA" hoping the ghost of Barry Gordy would inspire us to finish our new album. The Motown Museum tour was some of the best band funds ever spent, Studio A., the echo chamber, the time capsule...highly recommend it if you go to detroit. Also if you find yourself out in Ypsilanti, check out Henrietta Fahrenheit, cool store.

I'm convinced the ghost of Barry Gordy did push "Nature" up to #82 on the CMJ Charts, and we'd like to thank radio stations from Atlanta to San Francisco, and San Antonio to Alaska for spinning the disc. We're in preparations right now to come rock to you all!

10.8.02
"Nature" becomes dangerously close to breaking the CMJ top 100 by charting at #101 this week. Hopefully our appearances in the Detroit area this weekend will help push it over the edge next week. As for important stuff...

Faux Jean will play a faux release party at Bar Lurcat Wednesday October 9th where we will be selling copies of the recently minted Susstones debut "Nature" and maybe giving away some of the old "Kiss Life on the Lips" t-shirts. The address of Bar Lurcat is 1624 Harmon Place. Doors open around 9, and they cost nothing to enter, but you must be 21 to attend. Faux Jean will play a short set at ten and then another just after 11.

We know that people are a bit confused as to what comprises this "Nature" re-release. Let us explain; the nine tracks of "Kiss Life on the Lips" are included for the most part in an unchanged fashion, though some versions are a little longer and some remastering has been done. The song order has also been changed, with 3 new studio tracks interspersed. At the end of this 12 song hi-fi adventure, 9 four track cassette demos made at home by Faux Jean the boy are tacked on. These are the demos that we're passed out on cassette to the likes of Jean Angel circa '99 in hopes of getting her to join the band. They are cozy and revealing as to what's going on in the back seat of Faux Jean's songwriting car. So if you got KLOTL, you still get 12 new tracks, see?

As to the venue for Wednesday night's show. Bar Lurcat is in the space formerly occupied by the Loring Bar. The interior of the building has been completely renovated and looks marvelous. They will be having rock shows several nights a month. There will also be Latin, jazz and salsa, as well as DJ's. Music, in some form or another, will be happening seven nights a week. We played the grand opening party at Bar Lurcat this past Saturday and it rocked. Thanks to everyone who danced their asses off, we had a blast

If you can't make it down to Lurcat, turn your TV to channel 45 between 9:00 & 10:00 Wednesday...you'll catch a segment made about us and get your faux fix on that way....out!.

9.24.02
Today Nature is released, we are very excited. Available in stores October 1st. Thanks to Tripwire for giving Nature its first review in their newly discovered section. Come to our party celebratng Nature at Bar Lurcat (ex-loring bar) Wednesday October 9th.

8.26.02
Whoa...Faux Jean's been Sussed?...What you say? Yes, ladies and gents, after weeks of negotiation, Faux Jean signed on the dotted line, and is proud to announce we have formally joined forces and found a new home at Susstones. We'll if you've been sleeping the past few months click here! If you have been keeping up with ol' Faux lately you may know that Susstones has been busy releasing great new music by Polara, Basement Apartment, Sideways, Rob Skoro and Astronaut Wife among others. Susstones and Faux Jean have been busy all summer preparing a re-release of our debut cd expanded and repackaged for the masses this fall. We will keep you updated soon. Also keep tabs on us as Faux Jean.com enters version 2. A new website with more pics, video, and all around good times is around the corner, and should correspond with the release date of the cd. Take care.

8.02.02
Faux Jean is "Heard Now" in The St. Paul Pioneer Press

7.21.02
Kiss Life On The Lips just got a nice review on Gods of Music click here to check it out.

News of the weird...

Faux Jean shredder extradonair Gene Wire was quoted in the L.A. Times this week in reference to Jesse Ventura's term as Governor. Although he claims he presented a non-partisan point of view with plently of equally good and bad fodder, it appears all the writer was able to come away with was "It's been an embarassment!" If you would like to view this complete article click here, if you want to sit down and chat politics or guitar amps with Gene Wire, please email here!

On a truly wilder note Faux Jean has been included in Haley's Comment, a Penthouse.com column involving Haley (a fictional A & R Rep) and her travails through NYC and more. We've added a link here to read the story, to find the real story go to penthouse.com...but don't blame us if your parents or significant other catch you diggin' around on penthouse...we're only the messenger!

Thank you to all the great bands we played with the last few weeks, here is a list of some of them check'em out some time. Flipp, Like Hell, Dumpster Juice, Janis Figure, Divorcee, The Ferals, Arson Wells, 2 tickets 2 Paradise...hope you all had as much fun as we did.

Believe it or not our new recording is moving into the mixing stage, we are excited to finish it up, we also hope to have some news regarding it's release in the near future...in the meantime, come out and see one of our upcoming shows we are trying to include some of the new songs into our sets.

Jeff Henneman of Bootleg Minneapolis has assembled a little piece of Faux Jean history. Jeff and his video camera followed us to Eau Claire Wi, in late april for what was supposed to be a laid back club show on the prairie. Well, as clouds turned to rain, and rain turned to sleet, and sleet turned to snow, Jeff and his camera stumbled into one of Faux Jean's excellent adventures. The documentary will air on Bootleg Minneapolis on MTN later this summer, we also have a few copies in a quicktime format for sale if anyone is interested in how a 1 hour van ride can turn into a road trip from hell. Hopefully I'll have a link up to the Bootleg Minneapolis site soon so it can be downloaded too...

Don't forget Kiss Life on the Lips can now be purchased on line at www.cdbaby.com or Minneapolis' own Electic Fetus. Word on the street is KLOTL got a write up in NME (New Music Express) and has been making it's way into to Europe and being well received...Faux Real!

Now go listen to "The Ballad of Kim & Thurston" at www.mp3.com/fauxjean.

Email the song “Hey!” to your friends who like good music and let them know you’re down with fake denim.
